I’m basically lazy when it comes to certain areas of my life.
Though I’ll work hard, I choose to ignore other parts of my life.
For example, I’ll spend loads of time learning and studying in my field of hypnosis, but won’t bother to take the time to match my socks. In fact, I’m so lazy about matching my socks that one day I bought 12 pairs of identical socks so I didn’t have to bother.
I’ve been guilty of being lazy in other ways too. In the past I used to ignore my thoughts. I didn’t want to bother dealing with them. Especially the ones that didn’t make me feel good.
Unfortunately, this didn’t improve my life in any way.
Research has shown us that we have over 65,000 thoughts per day, but only about 5% of these thoughts are new ones. What this means is that we are repeating most of our thoughts. Not a good thing for someone who has thoughts of worries and fears.
30 years ago I learned how to choose new thoughts. It was a revelation. I was shocked that I had control over my thoughts. Up until then I was sure that I couldn’t do anything about the uncomfortable and negative swirling in my mind.
Every day I now practice choosing my positive thoughts and I feel great. In fact, my life keeps getting better and better as I continue to choose better feeling thoughts.
Here’s another thing. I now fold my socks. Now it’s easy for me to choose the right ones every day. The same way I choose my thoughts every day.
What do you do with your negative thoughts? Do you ignore them? Do you fold them and tuck them away and hope that they never reappear?
